The
NORTH of the Island

Andilana Beach
One
of the most beautiful beaches on the island of Nosy Be situated on the North
West corner of the Island.
•
Volcanic Lakes
A
group of seven lakes populated by crocodiles. The crocodiles are considered
sacred as they are believed to be the reincarnation of the ancestors.
•
Mount Passot to view the sunset
The
highest point on the island at 329 mt. From the summit it is possible to
admire the sunset or simply enjoy the amazing view of the island.

SOUTH of the Island

The sacred tree
A huge
banyan tree which unassisted has given life to a small forest.
•
The Ylang Ylang Brewery
Ylang
ylang is one of the main export products of Madagascar. A hundred kilos
of its yellow and green perfumed flowers produce approximately 3 kilos of
perfumed oil, whose essence is used by the perfume industry.
•
Hell Ville and Market
Hell
Ville is the capital of Nosy Be and where all the economic activity of the
island is situated. Near the port it is possible to still see the old colonial
buildings. In the shops on the main street you can buy local hand made crafts
at competitive prices. It is also where the local food market is located
and where you can haggle good naturedly for fruit, fish, meat and all types
of spices.
Natural
reserve of Lokobe
A
reserve of approx 800 hectares protects the major part of the vegetation
and fauna endemic to Nosy Be. A variety of species of lemur live there such
as the maki macaco and the weasel lemur, many chameleons as well as the
boa of Madagascar. Over 40 species of birds such as the flycatcher of paradise
and the pigmy fish martin can be found. Entrance to the reserve is only
possible by boat or canoe from the nearest village.
